Conversation: AI, the World, & the Future (Pt 1)

A week ago, Yann LeCun suggested that conversations about the future, especially regarding how AI will influence our lives, should involve economists.

YouTube #short: Maren, Alianna J. 2023. “Conversation: LeCun Suggests Economist Erik Brynjolfsson.” Themesis YouTube Channel (May 11, 2023). (Available online at: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Q-MqSXwsre8.)

LeCun specifically suggested Erik Brynjolfsson, a Stanford economist.

Figure 1. Yann LeCun’s LinkedIn post from Sunday, May 7th, suggested that we “listen to economists … [such as] Erik Brynjolfsson.”

Brynjolfsson hasn’t published any books recently, although he had an impressive run about ten years ago.

What we DID like was this interview:

Stanford Digital Economy Lab. 2022. “Erik Brynjolfsson | The Turing Trap: The Promise and Peril of Human-like AI.” (Available at http://Erik Brynjolfsson | The Turing Trap: The Promise and Peril of Human-like AI.)

Another good one is:

Korinek, Anton. 2022. “The Turing Trap: A conversation with Erik Brynjolfsson on the promise and peril of human-like AI.” Brookings Institute YouTube channel. (Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgnCMQ1lDrA.)

We also like this Lex Fridman interview with Erik Brynjolfsson. (We couldn’t directly embed that YouTube.)

{Post development in progress. Check back later today for more – details on Brynjolfsson’s works forthcoming! – AJM. Thursday, May 11th; 0300 A.M. Hawai’i Time}
